Jamal was born on May 21, 1971 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the son of Bishop John Richard Bryant and Rev, Cecilia Williams Bryant. He went to Duke University in North Carolina where he earned MA of Divinity degree. In 2005, he received his Doctorate of Ministry degree from Graduate Theological Foundation.
The pastor is also an author. He has written several books including “Dear Lord Today: A Daily Guide for Revelation & Reflection”, “World War Me: How to Win the War I lost” and “World War Me: I Desire. Vol. II”
