Izzy Atkin is a British-American freestyle skier who recently won bronze medal at women’s slopestyle at 2018 Winter Olympics representing as British.
Atkin was born on June 21, 1998 in Boston, Massachusetts to Mike Atkin and Winnie Atkin. Her father is from Britain while her mother is from Malaysia. She started learning skiing at the age three. When she was 14 years old, her family moved to Utah and she attended Winter Sports School where she ski in the winter.
Although she has dual citizenship from both UK and United States, she represents Great Britain after Park and Pipe ski head coach persuaded her to compete for Britain. Starting her career in 2013, she finished 9th in 2013 Junior World Championship slopestyle, 7th in 2015 World Cup Slopestyle and 2016 World Cup Slopestyle, 6th in 2017 World Cup Slopestyle (Font Romeu), 5th in 2017 World Cup Slopestyle (Quebec City), 1st in 2017 World Cup Slopestyle (Silvalplana), 3rd in 2017 World Championships Slopestyle (Sierra Nevada) and 3rd in 2018 World Cup Slopestyle (Aspen).
At 2018 Winter Olympics Games at South Korea, she won bronze medal in slopestyle. Her win makes her the first British skier to win a medal at Olympics. She scored 84.60 on a strong final run to win bronze medal while Switzerland’s Sarah Hoefflin won gold medal with score of 91.20 and Mathilde Gremaud took silver medal.
